Join us for a panel discussion with special guest, Ambassador Greminger, Head of the Human Security Division at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
From global warming to international trade, scientists and policymakers study the same issues – though often with different results. Through a panel discussion and general debate, this event invites participants to explore the connection between sound research and effective policy. Focusing on the fields of human rights and conflict prevention, the discussion will look at practical steps to bridge the academic and policymaking communities. Questions to be addressed include: How is policy developed? What role can, or should, academia play in conflict management and peacebuilding? Do academic products meet policy needs?
The evening will begin with introductory remarks and a panel discussion, to be followed by an informal reception at 8:30 p.m. Opening comments will be offered by Ambassador Greminger and Christoph von Arb, Consul General, with panelists:
- Claude Bruderlein Director, Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research
- Steven Caton Director, Harvard University Center for Middle Eastern Studies
- Jennifer Leaning Professor of the Practice of International Health, Harvard School of Public Health
